Grande Prairie is located just north of the 55th Parallel and is 465 km (289 miles) northwest of Edmonton.

Highway 43 is the primary highway into the city from the north and from Edmonton. Highway 43 meets Highway 2 a few kilometers north of the city at an intersection known locally as Four Mile Corner, then continue south into the city on 100th Street.
